Department Head - Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Department Head – Electrical Engineer to lead and oversee electrical design projects within our firm. Reporting to the Office Manager, this role involves close collaboration with Project Managers to ensure the successful design and implementation of electrical systems for a variety of building projects. The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), passionate about mentoring junior staff and dedicated to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guide and mentor electrical design staff to develop technical skills and project knowledge.
  • Partner with the Office Manager to assign staff to projects and manage workloads.
  • Ensure quality control through review of all electrical project deliverables.
  • Support staff growth with performance assessments and training initiatives.
  • Represent the firm as a subject matter expert in client meetings and project interviews.
  • Oversee the design of building electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, data/telecom, fire alarm systems).
  • Perform lighting calculations, circuit design, and layout of electrical switchgear.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and standards, coordinating with regulatory authorities.
  • Lead system evaluations and feasibility studies to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from concept to construction.
  • Monitor schedules and budgets to achieve project and financial goals.
  • Develop proposals and fee structures with management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for new services and contribute to growth initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry professionals.

Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (accredited institution)
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in electrical design, project engineering, or project management
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (Visual, Elum Tools, MS Office)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and best practices
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
